The designs in The Space Age in the 60s marked an important milestone and declared a fashion revolution. It contributed to changing people's thinking, the right to wear dresses how they want, almost similar to the revolution which Coco Chanel has done. Today, we will talk about one of the most recognized names at the time, the designer Pierre Cardin - Pioneer of The Space Age.

His childhood:

Pierre was born on July 2, 1922, in San Biagio di Callalta - Italy, to wealthy wine merchant parents. Cardin was a youngest child out of 9 children. It is hardly ever known that his name was initially Pietro, but was later changed to Pierre when his family had to flee the fascism in Italy to France, when he was only 2 years old. Thanks to this, Cardin had the opportunity to live and study at Saint-Etienne. At the time, his father just wanted his children to learn architecture, however from childhood, Cardin was only ever interested in designing clothes. At the age of 8, Cardin even once helped his girlfriend to sew clothes for dolls.

Cardin said that he was a sensitive child. Being educated, living in society, but he always felt lonely. Most of the time he used to design and draw samples.

Figurative:

At the age of 14, he learned many things and was hired by a small family tailor, this was the first job in Cardin's life, where he learned sewing techniques for women's clothes. He was hardworking and can receive special orders. At the time, he thought that this was a chance for him, not only for cultivating techniques but also to get an amount of money to pursue his dream. Not until he was 22, had Cardin been officially accepted to work in Paris, this is the reason for bringing young designers to this lovely city.

In the following years, Cardin had the opportunity to work for a designer named Jeanne Paquin - she was the first big Couturier and one of the pioneers of the fashion business and Elsa Schiaparelli, and not long after that, he became the main worker For Christian Dior. He published the costumes for the famous movie "Beauty and the Beast" by Jean Cocteau. Christian Dior also commented that designers like Cardin are the future of Haute Couture. His success did not stop there as Cardin was an important person in The New Look-Collection of Dior Designers in 1947. Many new ideas in Pierre Cardin have been formed and nurtured during this period.

After that, he released his first collection of Haute Couture at the age of 31, this milestone marked the official Cardin event as a member of Le Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture. In 1954, his legendary "Bubble Dress" came out. The dress helped build quite a reputation for Cardin as his name was still mentioned decades later. In addition, releases such as :The future spirit dress, inspired by science fiction novels, daring pioneers and women's fashion were also made.

Pioneer of the most crazy ideas:

Cardin came to Japan and worked at Bunka Fashion Design College, after becoming one of Asia's most influential shopmakers. He opened many campuses in China, Japan and Russia. While the whole world Haute Couture established their expensive products, protecting brand value, Cardin expanded by attacking the market for cheap sewing fashion. He came up with the idea of the Ready-to-Wear collection; this event caused him to be expelled from the high-end sewing union, but later it was recovered. Without stopping there he continued to design Ready-to-Wear patterns for men right a year later. However, we cannot deny him as the most crazy, daring and brave when selling a soft price for the public. Not long after that, he mobilized everyone to support the idea of using triplets models for the new collection.

Over the hard years, by 46, he came back, this appearance could be said to be the most controversial, with the collection "The Space Age". He liked shapes and geometric motifs, passionately new styles from the future, the universe. He then developed more in unisex fashion, even for many unrealistic items. These designs are still unique and popular products of fashion houses.

Cardin sold his brand to various other brands, from cars, furniture, bottles, baseball caps to perfume, cosmetics or even cigarettes. He said that a global influence brand can sell any item without having the same category. At that time, this made others think this was crazy. But a time later, other companies quickly learned the way of Pierre Cardin, for example, Dior had a coffee shop, Ralph Lauren opened a restaurant, Bulgari with hotels, Armani produced chocolate.

Later, when he was over 90 years old, Cardin still worked hard, he spent a few hours drawing designs. He held many fashion shows at the museum that he bought before. In 2018, Cardin also made a show at The Great Wall. By 2019, he continued to launch a spring-summer collection in China. It can be said that he is an example showing although lonely, he always finds the way, the light of his life. It is art, fashion, and dedication.
